Texas Rangers Roster Report 2009-04-09

Texas Rangers Roster Report 2009-04-09
The Rangers had a relatively pain-free spring training, but even without major injuries, the state of the bullpen might create a ripple effect throughout the pitching staff. With less than a week to go in spring training, the unsettled nature of the bullpen prompted the Rangers to move RHP Scott Feldman there to help create some stability.

PLAYER NEWS:

--C Jarrod Saltalamacchia left Wednesday's game in the eighth inning with dizziness and light-headedness. A club doctor said Saltalamacchia's symptoms are consistent with an inner-ear infection. He will be re-evaluated Thursday, but he wasn't expected to play anyway. The start was scheduled to go to C Taylor Teagarden.

--Only two Rangers position players -- DH/OF Andruw Jones and INF Omar Vizquel -- have yet to appear in a game. Manager Ron Washington said he planned to start both in Thursday's game, but it's possible he could change his mind after watching rookie SS Elvis Andrus homer Wednesday. Andrus, 20 years and 225 days old, became the fourth-youngest Ranger to homer.

--RHP Frank Francisco pitched a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday for his first save of the year. Since taking over as closer late last August, Francisco has allowed just one run -- it was unearned -- in 13 innings. He's holding hitters to a .111 average and averaging 13.8 strikeouts per nine innings.

--The Rangers tied the major league record for doubles last year with 376, an average of 2.3 per game. After stroking three more doubles Wednesday, they have seven in their first two games.
