Texas Rangers Notes, Quotes 2008-09-10
--DH Milton Bradley left Tuesday's game during the first inning with a strained muscle in his lower back. Though he has not spent time on the disabled list this year for only the second time since 2001, Bradley has missed 30 games with knee, quadriceps, wrist and stomach issues. The Rangers listed his status as day-to-day, but there is no reason to place a player on the DL in September since rosters are expanded. Bradley is expected to miss Wednesday's game and will be re-evaluated afterward.

--OF David Murphy received a cortisone injection in his right knee Monday to help alleviate pain from a bone bruise, but the team has still not ruled out the possibility of him playing again this season.

--The Rangers tied the club record for being plunked. They had four batters hit by pitches Tuesday: 2B Joaquin Arias, SS Michael Young, OF Marlon Byrd and OF Josh Hamilton. It most recently happened July 19, 2003, against Tampa Bay.

--CF Josh Hamilton continued his September resurgence. He was 1-for-2 with a double to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Hamilton is 13-for-26 (.500) for the month to raise his average from .294 to .303.

--RHP Warner Madrigal became the third Rangers pitcher to go more than three outs for a save. Madrigal entered the game with a four-run lead in the eighth and with the tying run on deck and proceeded to retire all four batters he faced. Madrigal has allowed one run in his last eight appearances totaling 6 2/3 innings.

BY THE NUMBERS: 99 -- Unearned runs allowed by the Rangers with 20 games remaining. It's now the highest total of unearned runs allowed by the club since 1987 when the team allowed 106. The club record is 107 (1973).

QUOTE TO NOTE: "There were a lot of people waiting to say 'I told you so about Milton Bradley,' after I got hurt. I turned all that into a positive. I think I've played better coming off knee surgery than anybody would have expected." -- DH Milton Bradley, on his season. Bradley leads the AL in on-base percentage and is second in the batting race to Boston's Dustin Pedroia.
