Texas Rangers Notes, Quotes 2009-05-04
--The Rangers are expected to recall OF Greg Golson from Class AAA Oklahoma City on Monday to replace C Max Ramirez. Ramirez was called up initially as a replacement for OF Josh Hamilton because C Jarrod Saltalamacchia's status for the weekend was uncertain. Now that Saltalamacchia is back, however, the Rangers have more use for an extra outfielder as a possible pinch runner or defensive substitution.

--With OF Josh Hamilton on the disabled list, The Rangers have had to consider some shuffling of hitters to get the most out of the lineup. One of those moves: Pushing SS Elvis Andrus up to the No. 2 spot from the bottom of the order. The reason? The 20-year-old rookie is a good bat handler who can help advance runners and get more at-bats with runners in scoring position for 3B Michael Young and LF Andruw Jones. Andrus had pair of hits on Sunday and also had a key sacrifice bunt that led to a run.

--It appears pitchers are starting to catch up with OF Nelson Cruz. He began Sunday in a 5-for-27 skid that dropped his batting average to .262. It was as high as .298 on April 23. Cruz had a double on Saturday. It was his first extra-base hit since an April 21 homer.

BY THE NUMBERS: 8 -- Leadoff homers for 2B Ian Kinsler in his Texas career which ties the club record held by Mike Hargrove, Oddibe McDowell and Michael Young. Kinsler hit leadoff homers in two of three games over the weekend series against Chicago to tie the mark. He has only been hitting leadoff since the start of the 2008 season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I definitely lead the league in weird injuries. I'm embarrassed, really. Somebody asks you why you came out and you say 'Um, I was dizzy.' And then they ask you again and you say 'I think I got something in my eye.' I'd much rather be run over, that's more manly. I played last year with some injuries and I want to play every day. I don't want anything to keep me out of the lineup." -- C Jarrod Saltalamacchia, on the pair of strange injuries (dizziness, eye irritation) that have forced him to miss time this season.
