Rangerszone.com | Texas Rangers News, rangers Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --OF Brandon Boggs broke out of a long slump with three hits. Boggs had entered the game in a 6-for-44 (.136) stretch and had seen his average fall from .385 to .253.
--RHP Vicente Padilla became the first Rangers starter to strike out 10 batters this year. --After seeing Rangers orthopedist Keith Meister and a hand specialist on Tuesday, 3B Hank Blalock received a cortisone injection to battle inflammation and soreness from carpal tunnel syndrome in his right wrist. When Blalock is ready to play again, it appears he'll first have to do so in the minor leagues on a rehab assignment. "If he's ready to play when we get home, we'll sit down and make a decision about where he can go to get some at-bats," manager Ron Washington said. "But our first concern is to get him healthy."
--Manager Ron Washington said the club is considering keeping RHP Doug Mathis as a long reliever even after RHP Kevin Millwood is activated. The Rangers will have to option out somebody, and the choices appear to be Mathis, RHP Josh Rupe or RHP Kameron Loe. Rupe and Loe have pitched in relief exclusively this season; Mathis has been primarily a starter.
BY THE NUMBERS: 14 -- Times DH/OF Milton Bradley has been ejected in his career, through May 25. Bradley picked up two ejections in a three-day span on the road trip by arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpires Jeff Nelson and Dale Scott. Manager Ron Washington was also ejected after one of Bradley's arguments for defending his outfielder.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "When you draft a player, especially a high school player, you take a chance. They are so young and you don't know what choices they are going to make. I didn't see what happened to me happening and I know they didn't. But with kids, it's hard to predict what choices they will make. I'm grateful they drafted me and grateful they gave me the opportunity. There was a while where I felt like they gave up on me, but when personnel changed, they gave me a second chance. But it wasn't meant to be for me to be there. If it was, I'd be there now." -- Rangers CF Josh Hamilton, discussing his star-crossed career with Tampa Bay, which made him the No. 1 pick in the 1999 draft only to watch him struggle with substance abuse and ultimately be suspended from baseball for three years.
