Designated hitter Hank Blalock made an adjustment to his approach and changed the game at the same time Wednesday night.

Blalock, who has been struggling with runners on base this season, had tried to change the game with one swing earlier Wednesday night. It just resulted in a wasted opportunity.

Trailing 3-0 going to the bottom of the fourth, the Rangers had the chance for a big inning, but it slowly evaporated. Blalock chased a fastball from Jarrod Washburn that was up and out of the zone on the way to a strikeout with runners at second third and nobody out.

The whiff dropped Blalock's average with runners on base to .200 for the season. When he flied out with a pair of runners on base for the second out of the seventh inning, it dropped the average to .196.

"I think I got caught kind of in between approaches on that at-bat," said Blalock, who has traditionally been a far more effective hitters with runners on base (.293 average entering the season) than with the bases empty (.258). "I was trying to do a little too much."

But after leaving four runners stranded between his fourth- and seventh-inning at-bats, Blalock honed his approach a little. He came to the plate in the 11th inning against Seattle closer Brandon Morrow determined not to chase anything up, and he was able to lay off a hard fastball, up and away, to begin the at-bat. Morrow then decided to challenge Blalock with something down. Blalock was able to get the head of his bat extended and drove the ball into the gap in right-center, scoring Michael Young with the tying run and Josh Hamilton with the game-winner.

RANGERS 6, MARINERS 5 (11 innings): The Rangers trailed on three occasions Wednesday before DH Hank Blalock's double lifted them to their second walk-off win of the season. The Rangers fell behind in the 11th when a throwing error by 3B Michael Young ultimately led to a run. In the bottom of the inning, Young led off with a single and Josh Hamilton worked a walk ahead of Blalock's laser beam shot to the gap in right-center.

The win was the Rangers' third straight, and Texas has now won nine of its last 11 and 11 of its last 15 games. The Rangers, who improved to 19-14, have won all four games against Seattle this season and seven of the teams' last eight meetings.
