Pitcher Matt Harrison and catcher Taylor Teagarden are officially a couple.

Manager Ron Washington said he'd team up the duo for a third consecutive start Friday at Chicago. Together, they are 2-0 and have pitched 10 consecutive scoreless innings, including five shutout innings against the White Sox on Sunday. In all, Harrison has pitched 12 innings over his last two starts with Teagarden behind the plate and has allowed four runs.

"Taylor has got him in a good spot," Washington said. "It all stems from the talk they had in Baltimore where Teagarden told him to keep up his quick pace, but not to rush his pitches. And it gives me a way to make sure that Taylor gets in there at least once a week."

Washington would not refer to Teagarden as Harrison's personal catcher, but for the time being they will work together. Harrison is 3-3 with a 5.91 ERA over the last two seasons with starting catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia behind the plate.

Washington said the pairing was not based on any deficiency in Saltalamacchia's game; he praised Saltalamacchia's willingness to work long hours with starting pitchers on their designated days. The move allows for Teagarden to have a specific project that allows him to broaden his role beyond the generic "backup catcher" designation.

RANGERS 6, MARINERS 5: For the first time since the fifth game of the season, the Rangers are a winning club. After striking out in each of his first two at-bats to run his AL-leading strikeout total to 39, 1B Chris Davis hit a two-run homer off RHP Felix Hernandez in the sixth inning to give the Rangers the lead for good. The club had taken a 4-0 lead to the bottom of the fifth, but Seattle hit for the cycle against RHP Kevin Millwood in the fifth to tie it up. In the sixth, Davis came up with one out and one on and stayed back against a hanging slider from Hernandez long enough to drive it into the seats in right field. It reinforced the notion that Davis is an all-or-nothing hitter early this season. He has 84 at-bats this year and 45 of them have resulted either in strikeouts (39) or home runs (six).
