Though Harrison was tested by a 34-pitch fifth inning, he finished with five shutout innings in the Rangers' 5-1 win over Chicago. It followed a seven-inning outing at Baltimore on Monday in which Harrison picked up his first win of the season.
Harrison struggled for the first two innings of the Baltimore game, but after a talk with Teagarden between innings about balancing up a quicker tempo with a more in-control delivery, he retired 16 hitters in a row. Since that talk, Harrison has allowed just one run in 10 innings.
It's not the first time the duo has teamed up for success. Last year, Teagarden caught Harrison just once. It resulted in a 7-0 complete game victory over Oakland. Together, the duo is 3-0 with a 2.14 ERA in three major league starts together.
Harrison's next start is Friday at Chicago. It will be up to manager Ron Washington to decide if he wants to create a "personal catcher" situation for one pitcher. And facing the same team twice in five days will also create a new set of tests for the young battery to work through.
RANGERS 5, WHITE SOX 1: The Rangers have scrambled back to .500 after spending all but two days over the last three weeks as a losing club. 2B Ian Kinsler led off the bottom of the first with a homer and was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to get the Rangers offense started. The Rangers finished their abbreviated five-game homestand 3-2 to get back to .500 at 12-12. They now begin a seven-day, three-city road trip to AL West-leading Seattle, Oakland and Chicago.
