While the club took on Baltimore in the final game of a three-game series at Cleveland, Hamilton flew back to Texas for another injection. It's unlikely that he will play in the opener of the Cleveland series and it's uncertain if he will play at all.
It's the third different injury for Hamilton in a very star-crossed season. He missed two weeks early in the year with a strained oblique muscle then missed all of June recovering from surgery to repair a sports hernia.
And the Rangers aren't about to put him back in the lineup until he feels 100 percent.
"He's not going to come in here and say, 'I'm close,'" manager Ron Washington said. "He's going to have to come in here and say he's ready. That's why we have those other guys out there doing the job. When he says he's ready, he's back out there. It's not going to be 'I'm close,' and then I'm tempted to put him in there."
Hamilton has been limited to 87 games this season due to the injuries and they have not been productive. He is hitting .270, but has only 10 homers and 49 RBIs.
ORIOLES 7, RANGERS 0: Rookie LHP Derek Holland struggled for the third consecutive start and put an injury-weakened Rangers offense in a big early hole from which it could not recover. Holland retired the first four Orioles he faced, but then got just six of the next 16. He left with the bases loaded and trailing 5-0 in the fourth inning. RHP Dustin Nippert allowed one of the three batters he inherited to score to make it 6-0. Holland has allowed at least six runs in each of his last three starts. He's failed to make it through four innings in the last two. Without 3B Michael Young or OF Josh Hamilton, the Rangers went hitless in seven at-bats with runners in scoring position.
