"He came in today with some stiffness and (trainer Jamie Reed) seemed to think that with the cold out there, we needed to give him another day," manager Ron Washington said.
Young is day to day after leaving in the fifth inning of Friday's 6-0 win over the White Sox. Young said he tweaked the back on a dive in the second and hurt it while striking out in the fourth.
Young said he had a similar injury a couple years ago in Detroit and missed two games. Washington said Young could return Sunday and no later than Tuesday.
"Knowing Michael, I won't be surprised if he's ready to go tomorrow," Washington said. "But if he isn't, he'll get Monday's (off day) too and that will be three days. For sure he'll be ready on Tuesday."
Outfielder Josh Hamilton (bruised left ribs) took early batting practice before leaving to join the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate for a two-game rehab stint. Arias is expected to be returned to Oklahoma City when Hamilton rejoins Texas on Tuesday for the start of a three-game series against Seattle.
