
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Rangers right-hander Doug Mathis became a free agent on Friday when Texas decided not to offer him a 2009 contract.
Mathis went 2-1 with a 6.85 ERA in four starts and four relief appearances for the Rangers last season. He spent just over a month with the Rangers before his season was cut short because of right shoulder inflammation.Mathis was originally selected by Texas in the 13th round of the 2005 amateur draft.
