OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Texas Rangers have reinstated right-hander Kris Benson from the 15-day disabled list before Wednesday night's game against the Athletics.
Benson, who began the season in the starting rotation, will pitch out of the bullpen for the time being.He was 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA in two starts before going on the DL with right elbow tendinitis. His only rehab appearance was Sunday for Frisco against Corpus Christi.
Benson will be making his first professional relief appearance after 297 starts.
To make room on the 25-man roster, the Rangers have optioned right-hander Luis Mendoza to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
