Apr. 19, 2009 (The Dallas Morning News delivered by Newstex ) --

The Rangers avoided the sweep on the Michael Young walk off homer, pushing them to 5-7. They have an off day tomorrow before heading off to Toronto for the start of a 7-game road trip (Blue Jays and Orioles).

Discuss:

? Michael Young. He hit a huge walk-off homer to give the Rangers an important victory and maybe a little momentum heading off on a 7-game road trip.

? Ron Washington. Many of you have emailed and commented on the blog about the manager's status. Does this win change anything for you? How big is the next road trip to Washington's future? BTW, beat writer Anthony Andro posted the quickest managerial changes. Phil Garner was fired after six games in Detroit in 2002. (I would think Garner would be a candidate for this job if a change was made).

? Vicente Padilla. He did not have good velocity on Sunday, topping out at 92 mph (at least that's the fastest I saw on the ballpark gun all day). He normally throws in the mid 90s. Padilla had two struggling outings in a row. Are you worried?

? Chris Davis. He was given the day off to work on his swing, but delivered with a big pinch-hit single in the eighth to tie the score. (He also had his socks pulled up like Kinsler does...did that help?) Is this the confidence booster he needs?

? Josh Hamilton. He's not comfortable at the plate. Hamilton has returned to the toe tap and stance from last season, something he got away from in spring training. It may take some time for him to get readjusted. But he has 10 Ks in his last four games and has gone eight straight games since his last walk. He's chasing breaking pitches and until he lays off of them, he won't see many fastballs. Once he gets his mechanics figured out, I'm sure he'll be fine. But he's struggling right now.

? David Murphy. He's still looking for his first hit in what is now 18 at-bats. He has options. Should the club send him to the minors to get some work or let him try to get out of his early-season slump while in the majors?

? Jason Jennings. One of the few bright spots in the bullpen. He had another 1 2/3 scoreless innings to keep his ERA at 0.00.

? Ian Kinsler. He had two more hits, including a homer, and a walk today. The guy is on fire.

? Andruw Jones. He had a double in the eighth as the Rangers tried to rally. Should he get more playing time?

? Frank Francisco. I like the looks of Francisco as the closer every time he pitches. It would be nice to see him in a true save situation with a one-run lead, but he did the job in a tie game in the ninth on Sunday.
