Hamilton takes first step in recovery
SEATTLE (AP) - Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton started throwing Monday as he tries to work his way back from a strained left rib cage.

Hamilton threw about 50 balls at 120 feet before the Rangers opened a two-game series against the Seattle Mariners. Hamilton said he didn't feel as bad as he thought he would and hopes to start swinging a bat on Wednesday.

"Everything in my body feels good except for my ribs," Hamilton said. "Day by day it's slowly getting better."

Hamilton was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday. The move was retroactive to April 27. He was originally injured on April 21 in Toronto when he crashed into the outfield wall while chasing a flyball. He started a game in Baltimore on April 25, pinch hit the next day, but was unavailable for two games against Oakland last week.

"Some spots I still felt something," Hamilton said of his throwing session. "But like I said, pain is my guide. If it hurts I'm going to shut it down. If it doesn't I'm going to keep going."

Also Monday, the Rangers recalled outfielder Greg Golson from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned catcher Max Ramirez to their top farm club.
