? Jason Jennings was bound to have a bad game. He had pitched very well and I wondered when that game was coming. Clearly, the timing on that was awful with the Rangers clinging to a one-run lead on Sunday. He just didn't have it. He's entitled to a bad game. Now we get to see how he responds to it. I expect him to be fine in his next outing.
? This team does have one particularly annoying trait: an inability in many instances to produce shutdown innings. It happened again on Sunday. The Rangers get out to a 5-1 lead with three runs in the fifth. Then that very same inning, McCarthy allows three runs to make it a tight game again. If this team played tennis, they'd lose their own serve right after a service break way too many times. That's frustrating for the offense.
? Obviously, Brandon McCarthy threw too many pitches on Sunday. And pitches per inning were an issue for him the last few seasons. But I have to say that was a very tight strike zone on Sunday. And, according to one fan over at Lone Star Ball who has a breakdown of the balls and strikes, this wasn't exactly a great series for the home plate umpires.
